Thank You To Our Veterans

We at hilmor are proud to support our troops, both past and present, who have served or are currently serving our country. Many of us also have family members and friends who are Veterans. We take this day to place special emphasis on thanking them for their service and bravery. But, have you ever wondered why Veterans Day is observed on November 11th? We sure did, and here is what we found.

The first thing to clarify is the confusion between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. While Memorial Day (the 4th Monday in the month of May) honors America’s soldiers who had died in service to their country, Veterans Day pays respect to all American Veterans – both living and deceased.

In November of 1919, just one year after the armistice ending WWI was rolled out, President Wilson declared November 11th as the 1st commemoration of Armistice Day. Then, in 1938, US Congress declared November 11th as an annual legal holiday known as Armistice Day to honor the cause of world peace and WWI Veterans. Post WWII, in 1954, Armistice Day was legally changed to Veterans Day to honor Veterans of all American wars.

Pretty interesting, right? It is important to reflect on our Nation’s history, especially on a day like today. So, thank you Veterans for making America the land of the free and home of the brave.
