An Organized Truck Makes for an Organized Technician

A tradesman’s truck says a lot about the person who is operating it.  Though it isn’t the truck that performs the service itself, the truck is the branding for the person that does.  We at hilmor are all about the first impressions, and the first thing a homeowner or business owner sees of a service professional is his or her vehicle as it pulls up.  If you aren’t going to do it for yourself, you should do it for your clients.  Give them something to immediately judge you by in a positive manner.  You’ll have their entire neighborhood talking!  Let your brand – which is kind of like your office in a way – speak to your professionalism and expertise.  Let it help you to work efficiently and effectively rather than place a burden on your daily duties.

With that said, keeping an organized truck can help to maximize your effectiveness on a jobsite.  The degree of organization is up to one’s own discretion – but just be sure to have some rhyme or reason to your truck’s layout.  Here are some organizational systems to try out.

Steel Drawer Units

You can find these at your local hardware store.  Mounted permanently, these storage systems can take on the rough-and-tumble of your truck while keeping your various items in place.

Monthly Inventory Checks

Get your jobs done right the first time without having to run to the store to pick something up.  Take a monthly inventory of the contents of your truck storage system and tool box and always be ready for what a job throws your way.

Keep it Filth-Free

Keep cleansing wipes, or some antibacterial spray and paper towels on hand in your truck.  You’ll thank us later.

Scrap the Broken Tools and Parts

These items are doing nothing for you but taking up your precious space.  Scrap them and treat yourself to a new tool instead!  Some companies may even buy back your old tools and replace them at a discounted price.  It’s a win-win.

Invest in Behind-the-Seat Organizers

To keep your paperwork off the floor and out of harm’s way, keep them tucked away in behind-the-seat pocket organizers.  Milk crates are good options, too, but they are likely to shift while you are driving.

An organized truck is an organized technician.  Do you agree?
