Did You Know? Unconventional Items That You Didn't Know Could Be Recycled

When thinking of recyclable objects, what comes to mind are items such as cardboard, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, milk cartons and paper.  HVAC technicians may think of scrap metal and copper.  But, being Earth Day, we at hilmor are determined to really focus on going green.  Based on the brand colors, we think we have had a great start.

Here is a list of some items that you probably didn’t know that you can recycle… until now.

Batteries

Visit www.batteryrecycling.com for information about recycling both rechargeable and single-use batteries

Clothes and appliances

Organizations such as Goodwill or Dress for Success are always welcoming donations of gently used and wearable clothing items.  Goodwill also accepts working appliances.  Who knew!

Eyeglasses

A local Lion’s Club or eye care store may take used lenses and donate them to people in need.

Ink and Toner Cartridges

A website such as www.recycleplace.com will pay you to recycle your used cartridges!

Sneakers

Nike’s Reuse-a-Shoe program collects old tennis shoes and uses the rubber soles to create a material called Nike Grind, which is used to make athletic flooring such as running tracks and courts.

Holiday Lights

In the spirit of going green, we know that switching to LED holiday lights is an eco-friendly and smart choice.  Don’t just throw your old lights out, though!  Once they stop working, send them off to HolidayLEDs where they will be recycled.  They’ll even provide you with a coupon for a future order!

So, celebrate planet Earth and the color green with us today!  Did you know that according to the EPA, in the USA alone, about 75% of waste can actually be recycled?  What are you going to be recycling today?
