  • On April 1, 1996, Taco Bell® announced that they had purchased the historic Liberty Bell and were renaming it the “Taco Liberty Bell.”  To make the announcement, they purchased full page advertisements in several major newspapers.  People across the nation were outraged!  Taco Bell announced at noon that day saying that it was just a hoax and that they weren’t actually purchasing the significant piece of history.
  • On April 1, 2000, Google™ pulled a prank on its users by introducing “Mentalplex Technology.” This revolutionary tool claimed to be able to read minds.  Users were prompted to stare at a revolving shape and then the page would redirect them to a Google results listing for “April Fool’s Day.”  Well done, Google!
