Top 5 Things to Remind Your Customers for the Heating Season

Fall is in full swing, and frigid temperatures are creeping in on us. As the heating season approaches, we in the business know it’s time for customers to take action to protect their homes during the winter and even help save them money.

Here are hilmor’s top five recommendations to share with your customers for the upcoming winter months.

1. Seal leaks: Sealing leaks is just as important for the heating season as it is leading up to cooling season. Sealing leaks can lower energy bills because air leakage can account for up to 40 percent of the energy used for heating and cooling a home.

2. Insulate the attic: This goes hand-in-hand with sealing leaks. By adding some insulation to an attic space, you will cut costs on your energy bill in cool and warm months.

3. Insulate the hot water heater: By applying a water heater blanket to a water heater, the system will be more efficient because the water will essentially stay hotter longer. Blankets are typically priced between $10-$20 and are fairly simple to install.

4. Prevent freezing pipes: Customers can save a lot of time and stress by preventing their pipes from freezing during the cold winter months. This can be done with relatively inexpensive pipe insulation and by running water through the pipes on a regular basis.

5. Stay safe and stay warm: To ensure safety and efficiency during the heating season, remind customers to keep an eye on CO levels. This harmful gas can form due to lack of proper ventilation. Also, when using a fireplace for some added heat, inspect the flue pipe to be sure it is secure. Be sure to clear all obstructions near the fireplace, furnace and hot water heater. And, NEVER run a system without a filter properly installed.

Stay warm out there!
